At the moment, the situation in Ukraine is at the top of news headlines around the world. In this difficult situation for the Ukrainian people, when the Ukrainian territory is being occupied by the military troops of the Russian Federation, it is crucial to get truthful and objective informing about the actual events in Ukraine through to the greater audience.
Unfortunately, along with military invasion of Crimea, the Russian Federation is waging a mass media war against Ukraine. It launched the propaganda campaign of unprecedented magnitude and intensity against Ukraine and spreads anti-Ukrainian information.
Russia’s coverage of the situation in Ukraine is characterized and based on outright and shameless lies, a biased selection of materials, and ridiculous twisting of facts.
The aim of such media coverage is to fool the uninformed audience into believing a fictional story about the oppression of Russian nationals in Ukraine and the threat looming over them.
The Russian information agencies continuously misinform on the situation in Ukraine with the aim of misleading the international community into viewing Russia as a true champion of human rights around the world, while labeling the just struggle of the Ukrainian people against dictatorship as “extremism”, “terrorism” and “fascism”.
It appears that the ultimate goal of Russia’s blatant propaganda is to downplay the remarkable success of the Ukrainian revolution against tyranny of the former president V.Yanukovych and his henchmen, and to portray this event as a “coup d’état” by a small group of western-backed insurrectionists.
Such false information is also set on discrediting the newly formed provisional government that is meant to carry Ukraine through the crisis until the Presidential elections in May 2014.
I am grateful to the Slovenian mass media and civil society in general for the unbiased coverage of the situation in Ukraine.
I also express my readiness to assist in providing you with comments and truthful information of the current situation in Ukraine which will contribute to the better understanding of the problem and, thus, will help Ukraine and international society to find a peaceful solution of the crisis.
Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Slovenia
