President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and President of Slovenia Borut Pahor discussed the development of bilateral relations in economic, cultural and social cooperation.
“We have discussed bilateral cooperation in economic sphere and noted with contentment the increase of economic activity between our states. We notice that along with the increase of levels of GDP growth, mutual trade turnover grows as well. The establishment of DCFTA since January 1, 2016 has also contributed to that,” Petro Poroshenko told journalists following the negotiations.
The President of Slovenia praised the reforms in Ukraine – decentralization, ensuring the rule of law, anti-corruption reform and improvement of the investment climate. “I think that Slovenian support for our reforms is very important for us,” the Ukrainian President emphasized.
Petro Poroshenko informed that the parties have reached an agreement to restore direct air connection between Kyiv and Ljubljana. “I think this will promote the development of interpersonal contacts and help use the great tourist and business potential between our countries,” he said.
“We stated that Ukraine had fulfilled all 144 criteria of the Plan of Actions on liberalization of the visa regime and I would like to once again emphasize that Ukraine expects the European Parliament to make a decision already in November,” the President noted adding that all the necessary procedures for the approval of the decision on the visa-free regime for Ukrainians had been already completed.
The Head of State thanked Slovenia for its firm and resolute support of the visa-free regime for Ukrainians: “This event will become an important step in the intensification of contacts between our nations”.
The Heads of State also discussed social and humanitarian cooperation. “Ukraine and Slovenia are willing to further develop legal base in social sphere. The evidence of that is the agreement on the implementation of paid activities of family members of employees of diplomatic missions signed today. This practice is wide-spread all over the world today and I am glad that Ukraine and Slovenia have joined it today,” Petro Poroshenko stressed.
The President also noted mutual interest in the exploration of developments that are a common history of our nations. “We welcome the beginning of cooperation of historians in the context of the 100th anniversary of the First World War aimed to commemorate the fallen Slovenian and Ukrainian soldiers. We agreed to carry out mutual steps in that directions and the Agreement on Cooperation between the State Archive Service of Ukraine and the Archives of Slovenia signed today will contribute to that process,” he noted.
