Ambassador Andrii Taran and the Mayor of Maribor A.Arsenovic officially opened the Ukrainian bookshelf in Maribor library.

During this terrible war in Ukraine the books in native language are very important for Ukrainian children. This is the way not to forget their home.

The books make the bridges of friendship between the children, between our future.

Proving this thesis Slovenian children together with Ukrainians presented during the event the extracts of the Ukrainian book “Liza and her dreams”, both in Slovenian and Ukrainian language.

The choir of OS Bratov Polancicev from Maribor added the charm for the program by presenting two Slovenian songs, written on the music of Ukrainian compositor in Maribor.

The project "Ukrainian bookshelf" is a part of the initiative of the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska. The main idea of this project is not only to support Ukrainian children but also to give the opportunity to their Slovenian friends to better understand Ukrainian culture, history and mentality, and thus make the intercultural connections between Ukraine and Slovenia.

In terms of the project the Embassy of Ukraine in Slovenia proceeded to the Maribor Library 214 books that will be spreaded among 12 divisions of Maribor Library in the city and in municipality.

We would like to encourage everybody to become the members of the library and open for oneself or for ones’ children the beautiful world of Ukrainian language and Ukrainian spirit. As whereas the Ukrainian children read Ukrainian books, Ukraine will have a future.
