The Ambassadors of Ukraine and Poland commemorated together the victims of the First World War in the Slovenian city of Tolmin

On November 12, 2023, in the Slovenian municipality Tolmin, a commemorative gathering to honor the victims of the First World War who died on the territory of present-day Slovenia took place.

A holy liturgy for those who died during the military operations on the Italian front between 1915 and 1917, as well as a prayer for peace in all the world, took place in the Parish church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary The military formation of the Austro-Hungarian army, which included residents from the territory of Ukraine and Poland, took part in the military operations of that time.

After the joint prayer, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Slovenia Andrii Taran addressed the audience with a speech. He noted the importance of the event and emphasized the power of the common Ukrainian-Polish combat brotherhood during the years of the First World War. The Ambassador of Ukraine also drew attention to the ongoing bloodshed and the cruel war unleashed by russia, which takes the lives of Ukrainian citizens, military and civilian, children and adults.

The Ambassador of Ukraine expressed gratitude to Poland and Slovenia for their assistance to Ukraine and also congratulated the friendly Polish people on Independence Day.

"Ukrainian soldiers are now sacrificing the most valuable - their lives for the common future, so that neither Slovenia, nor Poland, nor other European countries become another victim of the Russian neo-empire. For the sake of peace and the opportunity to choose one's own future," said Ambassador of Ukraine A. Taran.

After the end of the Holy Mass, Ambassador of Ukraine Andrii Taran, together with his Polish colleague H.E. Mr. Krzysztof Olendzki and the Deputy Mayor of Tolmin Municipality Oton Bratuz laid a wreath with Ukrainian and Polish symbols at the monument to the victims of the First World War on the territory of the Loce military cemetery and paid tribute to the fallen heroes by the of silence.

The participation of the Ukrainian and Polish ambassadors in the event was dedicated to honoring the memory of the victims of both nations in the army of the Austro-Hungarian Empire during the First World War, honoring the Polish-Ukrainian brotherhood in arms and blood.
