On September 10, 2019 Ambassador of Ukraine Mykhailo F. Brodovych held two meetings - with newly appointed Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of Slovenia Smiljana Knez and newly appointed Director of the Eastern European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia Berta Mrak.

The Ambassador congratulated Mrs Smiljana Knez and Mrs Berta Mrak on their appointments and expressed hope for further cooperation in order to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation between Ukraine and Slovenia.

In the framework of the meetings the Ambassador informed about the local elections in the occupied Crimea, held by the Russian occupation authorities, as well as stressed that it was yet another endeavour to legitimize the attempt of illegal annexation of a part of sovereign territory of Ukraine.

Special attention was paid to the prisoner exchange process, which took place on September 7, 2019. It was underlined that the leadership of Ukraine would continue to take all measures to release all Ukrainians, who are illegally detained by the Russian authorities.

The Ambassador stressed that full EU and NATO membership remain top foreign policy priorities.

The sides discussed situation in Donbas region. Taking this opportunity, the Ambassador informed about the current situation in the Eastern Ukraine, as well as pointed out the facts of the systematic violation of the Minsk agreements by Russia.

The process of reconstruction of monuments to Ukrainians, who died in Slovenia during the First World War, was also discussed.
