On 11 February 2026, on the eve of the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, we opened the Ukrainian Film Club in Ljubljana — a platform that will host screenings of five Ukrainian films this year.
We sincerely thank the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television of the University of Ljubljana for this opportunity, in particular Vice-Dean Miran Zupanič.
We were honoured to welcome our distinguished guest, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, Ms Tanja Fajon.
In his opening remarks, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Slovenia, Petro Beshta, emphasised that the Film Club will become an important space for presenting the depth of Ukrainian culture — both historical and contemporary. It is an opportunity to speak about Ukraine through the language of art — honestly, emotionally, and meaningfully.
As part of the Film Club, we screened the first film, My Dear Theo, which tells the story of a Ukrainian film director who, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, exchanged her camera for a weapon, yet continues to keep a video diary for her five-year-old son — as a testament to love, memory, and the struggle for the future.
Following the screening, a discussion and reflection session took place, moderated by Uliana Chebotarenko, with the participation of Ms Anastasiia — a Ukrainian currently living in Slovenia while her husband serves on the frontline. We express our heartfelt gratitude to all Ukrainian servicemen and servicewomen defending our country — each of you is a Hero.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and shared these meaningful emotions together.
