On November 27, 2024, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Slovenia Andrii Taran took part in the opening of the exhibition of photographs by the Dutch military photographer Eddie van Wessel entitled "War Stories. Ukraine up close", which is dedicated to the russian war against Ukraine.

The exhibition was prepared and organized by the Slovenian Pivka Museum of Military History in close cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of Slovenia, the National Military Museum of the Netherlands, the Embassy of the Netherlands in Slovenia and the Embassy of Ukraine in Slovenia.

The event was attended by Slovenian high-ranking officials, representatives of Slovenian expert scientific and expert circles, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Slovenia, foreign military attaches accredited in Slovenia, representatives of the Slovenian press, members of the Ukrainian community in Slovenia.

According to the author of the photographs Eddy van Wessel, the exhibition is designed to demonstrate moments of everyday life, both of Ukrainian servicemen and civilians in the conditions of the terrible war of russia against Ukraine. The main focus of his photographs is not the terrible war, suffering and destruction, but the Ukrainian strong faith and hope, mutual support and, most importantly, resilience.

Within the framework of the above-mentioned exhibition, the story of the evacuation and stay on the territory of the Republic of Slovenia of the Luhansk Regional Children's Home, whose young children found their refuge in friendly Slovenia, is also presented.

State Secretary for National and International Security of the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia Vojko Volk took part in the grand opening. During his speech, Vojko Volk emphasized the need to continue supporting Ukraine as long as necessary.

Mr. Volk noted that the policy of appeasing the aggressor is a significant mistake, which will necessarily lead to serious and tragic consequences, as history has repeatedly demonstrated.
In his speech, the Ambassador of Ukraine Andrii Taran noted that the opening of the exhibition dedicated to the russian war against Ukraine is another reminder to the European and Slovenian society that a terrible war has been going on for over a thousand days, that Ukrainian soldiers and civilians are dying every day, Ukrainian cities and villages are being destroyed, and infrastructure is being destroyed.

The Ambassador of Ukraine Andrii Taran expressed his gratitude to the author of the photographs for his personal courage to visit the hottest spots of the Russian war against Ukraine and show the world part of the existential struggle of the Ukrainian people, as well as to all foreign partners for their continued strong comprehensive support.

We invite everyone who wishes to visit the exhibition, together with their Slovenian friends, and also to tell their relatives and friends about it. The exhibition will be open until the end of February 2025.
